The Challenge

More Sales Doesn't Mean Profitable. We Help You Find the Difference

Inventory Chaos Across Channels

Running stock across a physical store and an online shop without integrated systems means your accounting is always a guess. Decisions get made on numbers that are already wrong.

Margins Eroded Without Noticing

Discounting, freight costs, returns, and platform fees quietly shrink margins. Without accurate COGS and margin reporting by product or channel, you don't know where you're actually making money.

Cashflow Gaps in Seasonal Business

Retail cashflow is uneven by nature. Stock has to be bought before it's sold. Without seasonal cash flow planning, a strong quarter can still leave you short.

WHY KIDMANS PARTNERS

All Your Needs Under One Roof

Integrated, Not Siloed

Your bookkeeper, accountant, and adviser work from the same numbers. Your inventory, payroll, and tax position are managed together, not in isolation.

Regulatory Intelligence

We stay current with payday super requirements, STP Phase 2 obligations, and ecommerce GST rules so your compliance doesn't fall behind your growth.

Sector-Specific Intelligence

We understand how retail businesses actually operate, across seasons, channels, and margins. This isn't accounting adapted from a generic template.

Proactive, Not Reactive

We review your margins and cashflow position before your peak season, not after. Planning ahead means fewer surprises when it matters most.

We've been clients of Kidmans for many years, most recently working with Pravneel and his team. Kidmans has helped us tremendously from both a business and personal accounting and tax perspective. I have particularly valued and appreciated the time Prav has taken to understand our business and circumstances, to enable him to provide really good, targeted advice. I would highly recommend.

Exceptional Service and Outcome. From the very start of preparing a budget to best strategies to secure a home Prashneel of Kidmans Partners was with us. He was really on our side and assisted in the many details of obtaining a mortgage. I recommend him very highly. Daniel Suleiman

My wife and I were considering refinancing our home loan for a while given the uncertain nature of the interest rate forecast in the upcoming months. When we approached Prashneel, our goal was to find a package that is better than our current one, and not only did Prashneel managed to do that but he also superseded all our expectations. He has a broad knowledge of the field and the professional advice offered to us through out the process eliminated any doubt that we had initially about this move. In summary, we would recommend his services to anyone without any hesitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

We sell through both a physical store and online. How should our accounting track profitability by channel?

The most effective approach is to configure your accounting software so that sales, cost of goods sold, and direct expenses are coded to separate tracking categories for each channel. This allows you to produce a profit and loss statement by channel. We set up Xero and MYOB files for omnichannel retailers and produce channel-level reporting as part of our monthly bookkeeping service.

Single Touch Payroll Phase 2 requires employers to report more detailed payroll information to the ATO with each pay run, including disaggregated income types such as ordinary earnings, overtime, allowances, and leave. For retailers with casual and part-time staff, this additional categorisation requires careful payroll setup. We manage STP Phase 2 reporting for retail businesses.

Shopify can be connected directly to Xero or MYOB via integration, which automates the transfer of sales data, refunds, fees, and payment gateway transactions into your accounting file. We set up and maintain Shopify integrations for retail clients and reconcile the data as part of our ongoing bookkeeping service.

From 1 July 2026, employers are required to pay superannuation on or before each payday rather than quarterly. For retailers with large casual workforces, this increases the frequency of super payments and requires payroll systems to be configured accordingly. We manage payroll and superannuation compliance for retail clients to ensure obligations are met with each pay run.

Accurate COGS calculation requires that the cost of each unit includes not just the supplier invoice price but also directly attributable costs such as freight, customs duties, and handling charges. These costs need to be allocated to the relevant stock items rather than expensed as general overhead. We set up inventory accounting for retail businesses and produce COGS reporting that reflects the true cost of your stock.
